What is a Bat Mitzvah?



The Bat Mitzvah is traditionally known as time when a young girl at the age of 12 is welcomed into the Jewish community. It signifies the time in a woman's life when she accepts all female responsibilities of upholding the Torah and it's mitzvot.

The Bar Mitzvah is the coming of age of 13 when a boy becomes a man in the Jewish community. It signifies the time in a person's life when he accepts all responsibilities of upholding the Torah and it's mitzvot.

Traditionally, a Bar Mitzvah boy will be called up to the Torah for his first Aliyah and will also don tefillin for the first time.
